COLOMBIA (BOGOTA) – GERMANY (FRIEDRICHSHAFEN): MARÍA ADELAIDA RICAURTE, EXCHANGE SEMESTER

I am from Bogota (Colombia) and I study Industrial Engineering here. Since the moment I started university I was expecting to take a semester abroad. By fortune my university offered me a lot of options in many countries, so last year (second semester 2016) I decided to take my semester abroad.

Thanks to my university I got the chance to choose many countries around the world but my first option was always Germany. Why Germany? I decided for Germany because I had the chance to live there for 4 months, 6 years ago and really wanted to do it again. Besides this I already could speak German and also had a lot of friends there! But I was lucky to find a very good university and my home university allowed me to go there.

My experience there was amazing! I had the chance to travel around Europe (Germany is in the heart of Europe, so a great starting point) and I also had the chance to make a lot of new friends. Besides travelling and meeting people I also learned about the German culture. People might think that germans are cold and not very nice but once you learn about their culture you learn how to become friends with them easily. It may take a while until you are friends, but if they are the friendship will last for many years (I know this because of my previous experience).

I am very thankful for this country and I am really hoping to be back soon! In the future I would really love to live, work or study there!
